Five Sacred Songs

Programme Note

Five Sacred Songs is a set of five accessible anthems for choir and organ. The texts are all in Latin, and range from the famous Ave Verum Corpus to some much lesser-known Bible passages. The anthems conjure a series of contrasting moods. Factus est Repente and Quem dicunt homines? are warm and lyrical, and Ave Verum Corpus is for the most part hushed and reverent. These anthems are offset by the vigorous Confortamini in Domino and the energetic Hosanna filio David which brings the set to a celebratory close.
