Fanfares and Rounds

Programme Note

Fanfares and Rounds is an extended single-movement piece for organ. The piece is in three parts: a lively opening fanfare-like section; a slower, more reflective middle section; and a finale containing repeated descending scalic figures which evoke rounds of church bells. Fanfares and Rounds was composed in 2020 for inclusion on a CD of choral music released on Delphian Records.

Fanfares and Rounds for organ opens like a Kenneth Leighton tribute, much to its credit. (Ken Walton, The Scotsman, 24th March 2022)

Nesbit’s fluency in writing for the [organ] is…apparent in the solo organ work Fanfares and Rounds. (Ivan Moody, Gramophone Editor’s Choice, May 2022)

an extended organ piece slightly reminiscent of Jackson or Mathias (Clare Stevens, Choir and Organ, July 2022)

an enjoyable and idiomatic work…It falls into a fast, slow, fast format and has several arresting ideas. (Gary Higginson, MusicWeb International)
