Peace? and to all the world? was composed as the final movement of my cantata Nativity, and is here presented in an arrangement for choir and organ. It is for the most part a setting of Henry Vaughan’s poem ‘The Nativity’. Towards the end, a second text is introduced: the final lines of the Tilethatchers Play from the York Cycle of Mystery Plays. The piece is exuberant and high-spirited, and attempts to capture the joy of the Christmas story.
